Join HMM Mechanical & Building Services in our commitment to Gas Safety Week 2023
Protecting Stoke on Trent’s gas safety & beyond!

At HMM, we take your safety seriously, which is why we’re proudly supporting Gas Safety Week from September 11th to 17th, 2023. This annual safety campaign aims to increase awareness of gas safety and emphasise the importance of maintaining your gas appliances in top condition. Gas Safety Week is coordinated by the Gas Safe Register, the official list of qualified gas engineers legally authorised to work on gas appliances.

Gas appliances, if not properly fitted or regularly serviced , can pose serious risks such as gas leaks, fires, explosions, and the silent threat of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that can take lives without warning, as it’s invisible, odourless, and tasteless.

By taking proactive steps to care for your gas appliances and recognising the warning signs of malfunction, you are not only safeguarding your home but also your loved ones. Here’s what you can do to ensure a Gas Safe home…

Check for Warning Signs

Look out for signs of malfunction such as lazy yellow/orange flames (instead of crisp blue ones), error messages, unusual noises from your boiler, or dark and sooty stains around your gas appliances.

Maintain Ventilation

During cold spells, avoid blocking vents that are essential for the safe operation of your gas appliances.

Leave Gas Work to Professionals

Never attempt DIY repairs on gas appliances. If you suspect a problem or notice something amiss, contact our friendly team on 01782 630656 for assistance.

Recognise CO Poisoning Symptoms

Be aware of the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse, and loss of consciousness.

Install CO Alarms

Protect your family by installing audible carbon monoxide alarms. Ensure they meet EN50291 standards and display the British Standards' Kitemark. Encourage friends and family to do the same.

Schedule Annual Safety Checks

Gas appliances should undergo safety checks annually and regular servicing by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you're a tenant, ensure your landlord arranges this crucial service.

Support Your Community

Be vigilant for those in your local community who may need assistance arranging their own gas safety checks. Offer your help to ensure their appliances are checked and serviced regularly.

Rest assured, all our engineers at HMM Mechanical & Building Services are qualified for all types of gas work. Your safety is our priority, and you can trust that our work is carried out with the utmost care and expertise.
